Artist's Description

The US Navy Zumwalt-class Destroyer USS Michael Monsoor (DDG-1001) returns to port in San Diego, passing the Coronado Islands and approaching Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at the southern tip of Point Loma.

Michael Anthony Monsoor (1981-2006) was a United States Navy SEAL who was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. Monsoor enlisted in the United States Navy in 2001 and graduated from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training BUD/S class 250 in 2004.
